Student Life Consultants is a private consulting firm specializing in the development of a wide array of leadership tools and resources for college & university student affairs administrators and student leaders alike. We believe that student leaders and higher education professionals should have access to remarkable, relevant, and most importantly, affordable training materials and resources. We aim to meet those needs. Student Life Consultants is owned and managed by Scott M. Helfrich, D.Ed., Justin D. Schiefelbein, and Maureen M. Helfrich and is based out of Brownsville, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Scott M. Helfrich has been a full-time, higher education professional for the past 12 years and has presented nationally and internationally on Student Activities, Student Government, Residence Life, Alcohol & Other Drug education, and mental health-related topics since 1994. He has been published in the Journal of College Student Development, Student Leader Magazine, Programming, and has been a training module developer, writer, and speaker for various colleges & universities, online companies, and professional organizations. Dr. Helfrich is also an elected directorate member for ACPA’s Commission for Housing and Residential Life. He is also a guest blogger on the Huffington Post College, the Student Affairs Collaborative, and is the creator of the studentlifeguru.com blog. Dr. Helfrich earned his doctorate (D.Ed.) in 2011 from the higher education program at the Pennsylvania State University and a clinical master’s degree (M.S.) in mental health counseling from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 2000.

Justin D. Schiefelbein has been a full-time residence life professional for the past six years. He is working on his Masters degree in Higher & Post-Secondary Education. He is a member of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) and the Association for College and University Housing Officers-International (ACUHO-I). He attended the 2011 Residential Curriculum Institute and has spent time planning, implementing, and assessing programs that enhance student development. Justin is a 2005 graduate of Bethany College in Bethany, WV with a BA in English where he spent three years working in a paraprofessional role in residence life. He has written training tools for paraprofessional residence life staff and has developed webinars for faculty and student life administrators.

Maureen M. Helfrich is an instructional designer and a consultant in the use of social media for marketing and as a platform for transmitting educational materials to college and K – 12 students. She has been an educator since 1998 working in various locations across the country, including Florida, North Carolina, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. She earned her master’s degree (M.S.) in instructional design from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania in 2003.
